White Lotus fans, grab your bags!

I have always been a fan of discovering hidden gems in Italy, and let me tell you, Taormina in Sicily is a true gem. From the moment I stepped off the ferry in Messina and caught my first glimpse of the town, I knew I was in for a treat.

Taormina, a town rich in history and natural beauty, will take you on a journey through the ages, from ancient Greek and Roman times to the present day.
Make time to visit the Greek amphitheater, which was later transformed by the Romans for Gladiator battles. (The Colosseum in Rome does not offer views of the sea like this.) As I walked down its narrow, cobblestone streets, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a time long gone.
Love Gone WRONG
One of the most intriguing and mysterious attractions in Taormina is the “teste di moro” ceramic heads.
These heads, believed to be from the 9th century, have become a symbol of the town and are said to have a fascinating legend behind them. According to local folklore, the heads were once used to ward off evil spirits, but I like to think of them as a nod to Taormina’s rich history and culture. (Here is the link to the story behind those ceramic heads. Suffice to say, woe to the man who does a woman wrong. Their head just might become a planter.) They are, quite simply, a head-turning sight!

Shopping
But Taormina is not just about history and legends. The town is also a shopper’s paradise, with a variety of unique boutiques and shops selling everything from handmade ceramics to locally-produced olive oil.
I couldn’t resist picking up a few souvenirs to take home with me. In fact, there is a set of ceramic tiles from Taormina hanging on my staircase.

Step out of Town
And let’s not forget about the outdoor adventures that await in Taormina. A hike up Mt. Etna is a must-do activity. The active volcano offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and is a great way to get some exercise and take in the natural beauty of Sicily. I mean, what’s not to love about trekking up a volcano and saying you did it?
The star of the show is the sea. Be sure to spend an afternoon or two during your stay at one of the amazing beaches. Here is a link to a beach guide.

When it was time to rest my weary legs, I headed to the luxurious UNAHOTELS CAPOTAORMINA. This hotel offers stunning views of the sea and is conveniently located near the town’s main attractions. With its comfortable rooms, excellent dining options, and top-notch facilities, UNAHOTELS CAPOTAORMINA is the ideal choice for your stay in Taormina.
In conclusion, Taormina is a hidden gem in undiscovered Italy that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. The town’s rich history, charming streets, and stunning natural beauty, combined with the head-turning beauty of its ceramic wonders, make Taormina a true gem that is not to be missed. So why not book your trip today and discover the magic of Taormina for yourself?
