Undiscovered Italy: An Enchanting Evening with a Private Chef in Villa Azzura

Have you ever dreamed of experiencing the magic of Italy, but away from the bustling tourist spots? We recently discovered a hidden gem in Positano that you won’t want to miss: Villa Azzura.

This enchanting villa, coupled with the culinary expertise of a local chef, created an unforgettable evening that made us feel like true Italian locals.

Join us as we share our adventure in undiscovered Italy, where we’ll introduce you to the charming Villa Azzura and its breathtaking surroundings.

A Hidden Haven: Villa Azzura

We were incredibly fortunate to find Villa Azzura, located in the quieter part of Positano, a mere 75 steps above Fornillo beach via a private walkway. This delightful villa offered the perfect combination of seclusion and convenience, as it’s only a 15-minute walk from the city center and a short 5-minute stroll to nearby restaurants.

The three bedroom villa itself is a marvel, boasting a large garden filled with lemon trees, tomatoes, and herbs – a rare find in the town. It felt like a dream to wander through the lush greenery and take in the intoxicating scents of the garden.

Just at the foot of our steps, we discovered Lo Guarracino, a delightful restaurant on the water with a stunning view of Torre Trasita, an old watchtower that now serves as a vacation rental. Lo Guarracino impressed us with its wonderfully fresh food, from mouth-watering pizzas to delectable seafood entrées.

Why Go Out When You Can Dine In?

With such a dreamy vacation villa and a million-dollar view, we couldn’t help but wonder: why go out to eat? That’s when our local friends introduced us to Sandro Cipriano, a talented chef with a wealth of international culinary experience. His impressive resume includes a stint at the Michelin-starred restaurant ‘Zass in the nearby five-star San Pietro Hotel (which, by the way, is a fantastic spot for drinks on their patio: Il San Pietro).

Sandro visited our villa to assess the cooking facilities and develop a menu tailored to our tastes, keeping the best local ingredients in mind. The following day, he took us shopping at the local market and grocery store, which turned out to be a delightful experience. We had the unique opportunity to learn about local produce and ingredients and immerse ourselves in the vibrant Italian culture.

The Magic of Sandro’s Culinary Creations

That very afternoon, Sandro arrived at our villa and got straight to work. As he prepared our meal, we chatted with him about his culinary career and life in beautiful Positano. We felt like eager students, soaking up his knowledge about local seafood, fruits, vegetables, and, most importantly, the local wine. Looking back, it’s a shame that we can’t remember everything he taught us – perhaps it was the wine’s fault?

Sandro then brought out course after course to the terrace dining table. Each dish was a delightful surprise, meticulously crafted with the freshest ingredients and bursting with flavor. By the time dessert arrived, accompanied by coffee and after-dinner drinks, we felt like locals who had enjoyed and savored a leisurely Italian meal – a far cry from the hustle and bustle of our American lives back home. The delicious leftovers kept us well-fed for several picnics in the days that followed.

As the sun began to set, we enjoyed our aperitivos on the terrace, basking in the golden glow and pondering the beauty of life. It was a truly special time spent with family, bonding over the simple pleasures of good food and great company.

An Unforgettable Experience at a Surprisingly Affordable Price

You might be wondering about the cost of such a luxurious and unique experience. Well, let me put it this way: we enjoyed twice the food of a nice restaurant, with a quality that was far superior, and the total cost was only slightly more than dining out. It was truly an unforgettable evening that left our taste buds, hearts, and wallets feeling satisfied.

Sadly, Sandro is no longer cooking in homes for visitors, but he wholeheartedly recommends his friend Antonio. If you’d like to recreate our enchanting evening with a private chef, you can find Antonio at his Facebook page.

A Taste of Undiscovered Italy

Our evening with Sandro at Villa Azzura allowed us to experience a side of Italy that few tourists get to see. We highly recommend seeking out these hidden gems and unique experiences when you visit Italy – it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and create memories that will last a lifetime. So go ahead, indulge in the magic of undiscovered Italy and let your taste buds embark on an unforgettable adventure!
